17 Tips to Improve Your English
 

 
1. Listen, speak, read and write English every day.
 
2. Attend class daily.
 
3. Watch TV with captioning.
 
4. Rent a video/DVD and watch movies—over and over again.
 
5. Get an American “friend” – neighbor, boyfriend, girlfriend, even spouse.
 
6. Read a news story in the morning. 
 
7. Watch a newscast of the same story at night.
 
8. Eavesdrop – be a spy – just for fun!
 
9. Call 800 #’s to practice English.
 
10. Make a list of questions to ask ahead of time for the 800# call.
 
11. Call up movie theatre multiplexes for listings of show times.
 
12. Borrow a book on tape from the library – perhaps a book you already know and love.
 
13. Read a paperback bestseller.
 
14. Scan the classified ads for an ideal home.
 
15. Scan the personal ads for an ideal lover – and don’t call them!
 
16. Work for an hour a day on your English grammar and use slang sites on the internet such as www.elfs.com.
 
17. Interview a native speaker for tourism and dining advice.
